They say beauty is pain—but I never imagined that pain would come from the back of my mouth.
For most of my life, I’ve been blessed with good genes and a pretty solid exterior. I’ve never had to worry about cosmetic procedures or dental drama. My face, though? That’s been a different story. Acne has been my on-again, off-again nemesis, and I’ve come to realise it’s less about bad luck and more about lifestyle—what I eat, how I clean, and the fact that my skin is just plain sensitive.
But teeth? Never gave them much thought. That changed in March 2023 when I stumbled on a health tip: visit your dentist twice a year for a cleaning. I had an unused HMO from work, so I figured—why not?
First Visit: Clean Slate, Hidden Surprises
The dental clinic welcomed me warmly. My teeth looked great, they said, but X-rays revealed four sneaky cavities—all tucked away in my wisdom teeth. I began the process of filling them one by one, feeling oddly proud of my proactive dental journey.
Trouble in Tooth Paradise
Fast forward to late 2024. A strange smell started oozing from one side of my mouth. One of the fillings had gone rogue. I returned to the clinic, only to discover my regular dentist was on maternity leave. Her replacement? Let’s just say he drilled too deep and filled too little.
Procrastination Meets Extraction
I stalled. I feared the pain. But by mid-2025, I finally agreed to the extraction. And that’s where the real journey began—not just the procedure, but the healing, the care, and the lessons I wish someone had shared with me.
So here I am, documenting my dental drama not for sympathy, but for solidarity. If you’re about to go through something similar, stay tuned for Part Two—where I dive into the healing process, the do’s and don’ts, and everything I wish I’d known.
