Self-Care Isn’t Selfish, It’s Stewardship

After a recent health scare as we entered 2026, I’ve come to a sobering realisation: taking premium care of myself is not indulgence—it’s stewardship. My body, mind, and spirit are gifts from God, and caring for them is an act of obedience, not selfishness. And I have 7 things that I am going to practice on my journey to premium care. Keep reading to find out; you might find one or two you can incorporate.

🌅 Starting My Day With God

The first waking moment of my day will be spent in quiet communion with God. Reading my Bible, praying, and listening for His voice sets the tone for everything else. It’s in these moments of stillness that I find strength, direction, and peace.

📵 Guarding My Mental Space

I’ve learned that being available to everyone all the time leads to burnout. So, I’ll turn off my phone at specific hours each day. Shutting out the noise of the world allows me to think authentically and recharge. People will be fine without me for a while—but I won’t be fine if I neglect myself.

🥗 Nourishing My Body

As I approach 30, I can feel my body changing. Processed meals and chemically preserved foods don’t serve me anymore. Eating “three square meals” is a myth I no longer subscribe to. Instead, I’ll focus on one nutritious meal a day, complemented by plenty of fruits and vegetables. These are what my body truly needs to thrive.

🚶 Moving With Intention

Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated. Even a 30-minute walk is enough to keep my body active and my mind refreshed. Movement is medicine, and I’ll treat it as such. As a dance therapist who has been practising for 5 years, I need a daily fitness routine that will be helpful when I am not hosting any dance therapy sessions.

👔 Loving Myself Through Care

Looking good, dressing well, and buying nice things for myself are not vanity—they’re acts of self-love. The Bible says, “Love your neighbour as yourself,” not more than yourself. To love others well, I must first love and care for myself. My body is the temple of God, and I will take the utmost care of it. So this year, I am going to gift myself things a lot.. i will call it Treat YASEF

🙅 Learning to Say No

If something costs me my peace, health, or mental well-being, I will say no. Boundaries are not barriers; they are safeguards. Saying no is not rejection—it’s protection. I often find this especially hard to do, but I need to cut things off to prioritise what is really important.

🌱 Focusing on What Improves My Wellbeing

Ultimately, my focus will be on things that improve my wellbeing—spiritually, mentally, and physically. Stewardship means tending to what God has entrusted to me, and that includes my own life, my goals, my career, and my family.

Taking care of your body is not selfish—it is an act of stewardship. God has entrusted us with our bodies, minds, and spirits, and nurturing them honours Him. Premium care means prioritising spiritual connection, physical health, mental peace, and personal boundaries. By doing so, we live out the truth that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and instruments for God’s work.
